Agbonlahor shares '100%' verdict on Aaron Ramsdale quitting Arsenal in January

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Aaron Ramsdale’s chances of playing for England at Euro 2024 could depend on him quitting Arsenal in January.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 25-year-old will have “100%” considered leaving the Gunners after his recent axing.

Current first-choice goalkeeper David Raya dropped a clanger in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw against Chelsea on Saturday (21 October), allowing Blues star Mykhailo Mudryk lob him from wide on the left.

Ramsdale was missing from the squad for that game due to the birth of his son but remained on the bench on his return to the side as the Gunners beat Sevilla 2-1 in the Champions League on Tuesday (24 October).

Raya has now played each of the last eight games in the Premier League and in Europe after first being named in the lineup last month.

Ramsdale has been linked with a potential January switch to Chelsea since his brutal axe at the hands of Arteta.

When asked if quitting will have crossed the England international’s mind, Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “100%, it’s on his mind. and he’s thinking of quitting in January.

“The problem with goalkeepers is that they rarely get injured.

“They’re not really going to pull a hamstring or a calf – so when’s he going get his football?

“Raya has played every game since coming in.

“Ramsdale knows now that his career and chances of going to the Euros with England could well depend on him moving in January.

“Sometimes you’ve got to accept that you’re number two. The manager isn’t going to come out and say it, but he’s not thick.”

In other news, Arsenal could sell two stars and then beat Liverpool to midfielder deal.
