Sources: Moyes and Steidten both agreed on West Ham signing James Ward-Prowse - new details revealed

West Ham manager David Moyes and director of football Tim Steidten are both pushing to sign James Ward-Prowse despite slow progress in talks, sources have told Football Insider.

Some reports suggested that there had been a “bust up” between the pair over the pursuit of the Southampton captain but that is understood to not be the case.

Sources have told Football Insider that the West Ham manager is a big fan of the midfielder and the Hammers director of football is also extremely keen to bring him to the London Stadium.

Talks have been ongoing between the clubs over the signature of the 28-year-old but progress has been slow as West Ham believe that the Saints are currently asking for a unrealistic figure for their captain.

The West London side are currently willing to pay just over £30million with the Championship side setting an asking price of around £45 million.

Steidten and Moyes are both pushing to bring him in before the window slams shut and despite talks being difficult the door remains open for Ward-Prowse to join this summer.

The window has been slow for the London side so far but they are expected to push on and bring in multiple signings over the next few weeks.

Harry Maguire and Scott Mctominay are both on the list of the recruitment team at West Ham, however Manchester United have set a high fee for both.

David Moyes, Tim Steidten and the recruitment staff at the Europa Conference Champions are working hard and in harmony to bring in new recruits ahead of the new season.

Ward-Prowse played every Premier League game in the 2022-23 campaign and has racked up 343 total top-flight appearances since making his debut in 2012. He has also been capped 11 times by England.
