Sources: Premier League clubs express concern over Chelsea and Saudi connection amid hotel reveal

A number of Premier League clubs have expressed concerns over the relationship between Chelsea and the Saudi Pro League, Sources have told Football Insider.

The face of Chelsea’s ownership Todd Boehly has a strong relationship with the Saudi Public Investment Fund, who have an 80 per cent stake in Newcastle United.

It has been suggested within footballing circles that PiF have “invested interests” in Clearlake Capital, the investment group who own around 60% of the club.

It’s not clear to what extent the PiF have invested in Clearlake Capital – but the two parties are in business after teaming up with one of Boehly’s businesses to put money into a hotel chain.

To be clear, it is just as likely that Boehly has acted upon an already strong relationship in the knowledge that Saudi clubs are keen to bring in stars to build their league’s status.

However, it is believed the volume of deals taking place between Pro League clubs and Chelsea has alarmed some Premier League rivals – who are now seeking clarification.

Hakim Ziyech, Kalidou Koulibaly, N’Golo Kante and goalkeeper Édouard Mendy have all reached agreements with Saudi sides in the last few days.

A possible swoop for Callum Hudson-Odoi is also being discussed by two Pro League clubs – as well as unconfirmed talks over a move for Christian Pulisic.

Chelsea were always open to large outgoings in this window with Financial Fair Play regulations and the need for new signings leading to them putting 80% of their squad up for sale.

There is likely to be more pressure in the coming weeks from rivals should the Blues continue to benefit from their Saudi relations – despite there being no evidence of wrongdoing thus far.
