Sources: Clubs race to sign former Watford and Burnley striker Andre Gray after deal terminated

A host of Championship clubs are on alert for former Burnley and Watford striker Andre Gray after he became a free agent, sources have told Football Insider.

Gray has terminated his contract at Aris Saloniki by mutual consent which has alerted a number of clubs to his availability as a free agent.

The 32-year-old was leading goalscorer for Aris last season, but departs after they were knocked out of the Europa Conference League qualifying round.

A number of clubs domestically and in Europe are on alert for the proven striker as they look to bolster their striking options outside the transfer window.

Several Championship sides are monitoring Gray’s situation and are readying to move for the free agent with the striker having scored 56 goals in 146 appearances in the Championship.

The attacker’s contract with the Greek club was due to expire in 2026 after he joined from Watford on a free transfer last summer.

Gray has played for a host of English sides throughout his lengthy career including Brentford, Luton Town and Shrewsbury, as well as Watford and Burnley.

Watford are currently 16th in the Championship with just four points from their four games so far this season, having also scored four goals in those outings.

The Hornets’ current options up front include Mileta Rajovic who joined from Swedish side Kalmer this summer, Rhys Healey who made the switch from Toulouse and Vakoun Bayo who returns from a loan spell at Belgian side RSC Charleroi.
