Kieran Maguire: Man City set for stunning £300m+ boost

Man City are set to rocket their revenues beyond £300million due to the Premier League’s new and improved broadcast deal.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that the ‘formula’ used by the Premier League to distribute money means City are set for a big boost to their broadcast revenue.

As reported by The Standard, the Premier League are set to televise all matches other than Saturday 3pm kick-offs from the 2025/26 season, when the new TV deal begins.

There are currently 200 matches broadcast in the top flight, but the new upcoming broadcast deals are set to increase that figure to 270 per season – including all 10 final-day matches simultaneously.

Premier League clubs currently earn additional merit fees from the Premier League based on their final league position, as well as facility fees for how many times they are broadcast.

City posted broadcast revenues of £294million in their latest 2021/22 accounts.

Maguire explained that a new Premier League broadcast deal would boost the broadcast revenue figures at City.

As far as the new deals are concerned,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

The Premier League has been treading water for a decade in terms of the money that’s being generated from their partnerships.

So offering more matches will nudge up the total value of the packages.

Amazon are paying around £30million a year for their 20-match package, and it looks as if that package is going to increase to 50 or 70 games, which will include some of the weekend games as well.

So I think the Premier League are hoping that the package could be worth up to £300million a year, so it will be a boost to Premier League clubs.

As for how the money is going to be divided, we’ll have to wait and see.

“There is a formula in place that certainly benefits clubs such as Manchester City because the merit fees are linked to the final league position, and the facility fees are linked to the popularity of the club.
