Man United fans 'won't fall for gimmicks' as new details emerge - pundit

Man United fans won’t fall for the Glazer family’s gimmicks.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie said fans want to see the owners backing the manager with money in the transfer market.

As relayed by The Sun (24 October), the Glazers allegedly considered giving fans voice meters to wear at matches with a view to awarding tickets to those who were the loudest.

The owners believed that enhancing the crowd noise would add to the matchday experience for fans in hospitality as well as fans watching on the TV.

The Americans bought the club back in 2005 and put it up for sale last year, but the only offer to buy the entire club for £5billion was withdrawn.

British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe has agreed a deal to buy a 25 per cent stake in the club with a view of taking over the footballing operations.

McAvennie claimed fans want to see progress within the team above all else.

The fans won’t fall for gimmicks,” he told Football Insider.

They want a settled Man United, a settled team. Whoever is picking the players to sign is picking the wrong ones for the mentality of Man United.

Scott McTominay has been the saviour in the last couple of weeks and then he was the villain when he conceded the penalty the other night.

It is a lot of nonsense what the Glazers wanted to do, it is all Americanised, it is not for me. Just let the manager buy his own players, try that and see how it goes.

In other news, Sir Jim Ratcliffe set to complete Man United takeover within weeks.
