'Rigged', Absolute disgrace' - Fans react to Newcastle United VAR drama against Wolves

Fans were left outraged on social media this weekend after witnessing more VAR drama during the 2-2 Premier League draw between Newcastle United and Wolves.

Eddie Howe’s side took a point away from their trip to the Molineux on Saturday evening (28 October) after Callum Wilson’s first-half brace was cancelled out by goals from Mario Lemina and Hwang Hee-Chan.

Wilson’s second of the game came from 12 yards after the Tyneside club were controversially awarded a penalty by referee Anthony Taylor.

VAR decided to award Newcastle a penalty despite footage appearing to show Hwang pull out of a challenge with Fabian Schar.

After a lengthy review, the penalty was given and Wilson converted from the spot to give Newcastle a 2-1 lead.

Following the full-time whistle, Wolves manager Gary O’Neil vented his frustration at the decision.

Others called for VAR to be scrapped after another controversial decision.

This fan went as far as suggesting that the PGMOL should be ‘ashamed’ of the decision…

Newcastle even faced accusations of cheating from some sections of fans.
