Sources: Leeds explore late move for West Brom star Thomas-Asante after £2m bid

Leeds are exploring a late move for West Brom striker Brandon Thomas-Asante, sources have told Football Insider.

West Brom rejected a £2million bid from Stoke for Thomas-Asante earlier this week, but they could sell the former Salford forward for the right price.

Leeds are rivalling Stoke for the player’s signature before Friday’s (1 September) 11pm deadline as they look to bolster their attacking options.

Thomas-Asante, 24, has scored two Championship goals this season and also found the net in the League Cup first-round loss against Stoke.

The Milton Keynes-born ace is under contract at The Hawthorns until June 2025.

He joined West Brom from Salford City in a reported £300,000 deal last year (2022).

In his first season for the Baggies, Thomas-Asante managed nine goals across 35 appearances in all competitions.

Prior to his move, the forward racked up 30 goals and 13 assists for Salford in the fourth tier of English football.

Thomas-Asante primarily features as a central striker but can also play on the left and right flanks.

Leeds are on the hunt for more striking reinforcements as they look to make an immediate return to the Premier League.

The Whites have already sealed a big-money move for prolific Swansea striker Joel Piroe this summer – and the Dutchman scored on his debut against Ipswich last week (26 August).

Meanwhile, Sam Greenwood has completed a loan switch to Middlesbrough after falling down the pecking order at Elland Road.

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (30 August) that Joe Gelhardt is also set for a Leeds United exit, with Ipswich Town plotting a late loan move for the 21-year-old.
