Sources: Big update on David Moyes potentially quitting West Ham

A decision on manager David Moyes potentially quitting West Ham is set to come later in the season, sources have told Football Insider.

Moyes, 60, is currently out of contract at the London Stadium at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

It is believed neither the club nor the manager is in any rush to kick-start talks over a potential extension after a lukewarm start to the new season.

His future was up in the air in the summer after a fall-out, and major difference of opinion over a number of transfer targets, with the newly-appointed sporting director Tim Steidten.

West Ham have picked up 14 points from nine Premier League games and sit 10th in the table.

As quoted by the Daily Mail (21 October), Moyes has insisted he is “only focused on the team doing well” at present – rather than a potential extension.

The Scot has been at the club since returning for a second spell in December 2019.

His previous spell in charge of the Irons ended after just 31 games in May 2018, but his successor Manuel Pelligrini proved unsuccessful and Moyes was quickly restored to the role.

The ex-Everton and Man United man achieved sixth and seventh-place finishes in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 campaigns.

However, his most impressive feat as West Ham boss came last term – when he led the Irons to glory in the Europa Conference League.

The Irons built on that success by spending a reported £120million on new signings in the summer window.

But the Londoners’ 4-1 defeat against Aston Villa on Sunday (22 October) leaves them six points outside the top four after nine games.

Moyes’ side are next in action against Olympiakos in the Europa League on Thursday (26 October).
