Revealed: Premier League respond to Liverpool request for Tottenham replay

The Premier League will refuse to replay the match between Liverpool and Tottenham, sources have told Football Insider.

Jurgen Klopp’s side fell to a 2-1 defeat against Spurs on Saturday (30 September), but the Reds were left outraged by an incorrect VAR decision for Luis Diaz’s strike.

The Liverpool manager used his media conference on Wednesday to call for the Premier League game against Tottenham to be replayed after Diaz’s goal was wrongly disallowed by the video assistant referee.

The PGMOL acknowledged the error after the match and admitted that refereeing standards ‘fell short of expectations’ during the match.

The recorded audio of the incident has since been published revealing a huge miscommunication error between the VAR officials and referee Simon Hooper.

Liverpool published a statement on Sunday stating that the club will “explore the range of options available, given the clear need for escalation and resolution.”

Despite the Merseyside club looking for the incident to be escalated, Football Insider has been told that there is no prospect of the Premier League considering a replay of the match.

The loss was Liverpool’s first of the season in the Premier League, while the three points ensured Tottenham leapfrogged them in the standings to climb to second place.

Klopp has urged the PGMOL to change VAR protocol and insisted that replays should be considered for such major errors.

“If that would happen again, I would say replay. Or much, much better than a replay – sort it in that moment. Common sense,” said the Liverpool boss.
