Sources: Man City may not keep Kevin De Bruyne - and this is why

Kevin De Bruyne may not be offered a contract renewal at Man City if his injury record worsens, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (20 October) that the 31-year-old remains happy at City as his mega-money contract runs down.

De Bruyne’s deal is set to expire in June 2025.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider there is “no urgency” to sit down and discuss a renewal – with talks likely to take place in around 12 months’ time.

There is likely to be a willingness from both parties to iron out a new deal as things stand.

However, it is believed there are concerns about the increasing number of injury problems De Bruyne is suffering in recent seasons.

De Bruyne is currently out of action with a serious hamstring injury he sustained on the opening day of the Premier League season.

The Belgium international is expected to be out until the new year.

He admitted he had played through the issue for the last two months of the 2022-23 campaign, which ended in Man City winning the treble.

De Bruyne made 49 total appearances last term, notching 10 goals and 31 assists in a stellar season.

The ex-Wolfsburg star has been at the Etihad Stadium since joining for a reported £54million in 2015.

In that time he has managed 96 goals and 153 assists in 358 games for the club, winning five Premier League titles in the process.
