Man United are an 'embarrassment' after takeover update in last hours - pundit

Man United are an “embarrassment” to football after it emerged on Saturday night that Skeikh Jassim has pulled out of the takeover race.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie can’t believe the disarray at “one of the biggest clubs in the world”.

United owners Joel and Avram Glazer put the club up for sale almost a year ago and, despite bids from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, have not agreed to sell yet.

It was widely reported on Saturday evening that the Qatari banker has withdrawn from the process to buy United after a break down in negotiations following new talks this week.

Even before Sheikh Jassim pulled out Bloomberg reported (12 October), the Glazers were expected to hold a board meeting in the coming days to discuss the offers and were believed to prefer Sir Ratcliffe’s offer of a minority stake as opposed to Sheikh Jassim’s full takeover proposal.

On the pitch the team have been struggling for results in recent games after losing to Crystal Palace in the league before a second Champions League defeat in their opening two games.

A narrow 2-1 win over Brentford before the international break papered over some of the cracks, but McAvennie insisted there are bigger problems at Old Trafford.

I do not know what is happening at Man United now,” he told Football Insider.

It is an embarrassment and disgrace. There is one drama after another and for a big club like Man United who I actually think are one of the biggest in the world, it is a total embarrassment. But is this what you get from the biggest club in the world?

From the owners to the manager it is just strange. There is something not right and I just cannot understand it.
