Pundit suggests 'something is not right' with Newcastle United star Callum Wilson

Callum Wilson can force his way back into the starting line-up at Newcastle United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie said any manager would be lucky to have a player like Wilson in their squad but suggested his injury record could be a concern.

The 31-year-old made a four minute cameo in the 2-2 with West Ham last weekend after having missed Newcastle’s last four games through injury.

But the striker has still managed eight appearances so far this term, netting four goals in those outings despite only starting two of those games.

Eddie Howe has preferred Alexander Isak up top who has notched seven goals in ten appearances so far this term.

McAvennie insisted Wilson’s future lies at St James’ Park even if he is not starting every game.

He will score goals. I think Eddie Howe likes him but there is just something not right with him. He has got to be fit to play.

I think he is someone that any manager would go to because he will guarantee you goals. They have got other players scoring goals all over the pitch now, the likes of [Miguel] Almiron, they are scoring goals from everywhere now.

With his injury problems somebody might not take a chance on him but hopefully he plays because he is a good player. I think he will hang about at Newcastle because Eddie knows he can bring him on to score goals.

In other news, Newcastle United now just weeks away from landing £31m payout.
