Kieran Maguire slams Dejphon Chansiri amid £7m Sheffield Wednesday reveal

The Championship’s broadcasting deal will help Sheffield Wednesday ‘absorb’ the losses inflicted because of their owner Dejphon Chansiri.

That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Chansiri and his ‘confusing’ motivations at Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday’s parent company, Sheffield 2 Limited, published their 2021/22 accounts on Tuesday (26 September) revealing losses of £7million.

It takes the total losses of the company up to £65million over three years since Chansiri set it up as Wednesday’s parent company.

The Wednesday owner took aim at the club’s fans this week with a lengthy statement insisting he will no longer invest in the club.

Maguire questioned Chansiri’s motives but believes Wednesday’s improved revenue in the Championship will help the club handle any losses.

Sheffield Wednesday is a tough one to work out,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

The motivations of the owner, Dejphon Chansiri, are confusing.

The financial results of his company effectively replicate those of the football club itself.

“The positives for Sheffield Wednesday are that they are now back in the Championship, but the negative is that they’ve made a poor start to the season.

However, the difference between the League One and the Championship TV deal is around £6million to £7million.

Plus they’ve got great support and higher attendances because of bigger away support coming to Hillsborough.

So I think that they can probably absorb those losses.
