'Disgraceful', 'Deep down we all know...' - Liverpool fans react to Mohammed Salah finishing 11th in Ballon d'Or

Liverpool fans have reacted with anger to Mohammed Salah finishing 11th in the 2023 Ballon d’Or final standings on Monday (30 October).

Lionel Messi took home his eighth award, but the Liverpool winger, despite 46 goal contributions for his club last season, earned a relatively meagre five nominations.

This was Salah’s lowest Ballon d’Or ranking since moving to Merseyside in 2017 with his highest finish being fifth in 2019 and 2022.

The Egyptian was the only Liverpool player to feature in the top 30 after the club won no major trophies last season.

Salah’s goal-scoring has been among the best in world football since his arrival at Anfield and many Reds fans have been left shocked by his low ranking this year.

One fan noted how the Egyptian had thrived last season despite being in a weakened Liverpool side and was deserving of the award.

Another was confident that, while this year was not Salah’s year, next year he would claim the prize.

Other fans struggled to understand how the 31-year-old only finished as high as 11th.

Other Reds took Salah’s ranking personally, claiming he should of at least broken into the top 10.

One supporter insisted that Salah not only deserved a higher ranking but to win it outright.

Another fan suggested that Salah missing out on the prize yet again is another in a long line of injustices.
