'I don't care if this is unpopular' - Man United fans suggest who should be new captain after Roy Keane shreds Bruno Fernandes

Man United fans have dropped their reaction to Roy Keane’s scathing criticism of captain Bruno Fernandes.

Keane claimed that Fernandez was not captain material from what he saw during the Red Devil’s 3-0 derby defeat to Manchester City on Sunday (29 October) after his “whinging and moaning”.

Fernandes replaced Harry Maguire as captain ahead of the new season, but amid Man United’s struggles on and off the field, many have claimed that Erik ten Hag’s decision was incorrect.

The Portugal international has been a standout for the club since his arrival from Sporting Lisbon in 2020, scoring 66 goals in all competitions, but his antics on the field have left fans questioning his leadership abilities.

However, a lack of options for a replacement for the 29-year-old has left United fans split over who should become the new captain.

Some fans were eager to see the injured Lisandro Martinez take the armband from Fernandes after his strong performances this season.

Other fans “don’t care” if their opinion is unpopular and have pointed to strong leaders in the squad, including Casemiro, Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw, as suitable successors.

One fan was very keen to see Varane take the armband while suggesting that the club’s inability to see the Frenchman in this role shows they are “disoriented”.

Another supporter suggested Casemiro should take the captaincy, but only for the short-term, while claiming the armband is a real distraction for Fernandes.

One fan suggested an outsider for the role – academy graduate Scott McTominay.
