Sources: Arsenal could sell Ramsdale next summer in surprise U-turn

Arsenal could now part with goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale next summer, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed the 25-year-old could be sold in 2024 – with the Gunners then free to go back into the market and sign a clear number two shot-stopper.

Ramsdale has been unhappy with his second-string status since David Raya’s introduction and wants to move elsewhere to get regular first-team football.

However, Football Insider revealed on Friday (27 October) that Arsenal are unwilling to let the England international leave the club in the January transfer window.

It is believed Ramsdale wants regular first-team football – not just to stake his claim for the Three Lions ahead of Euro 2024, but also to keep his career on track at a crucial time in his development.

Arsenal choosing to sell the shot-stopper would be a surprise U-turn from Mikel Arteta – who was initially adamant about having two “great” goalkeepers in his squad after Raya’s arrival.

But the Spain international has dominated the teamsheet in the last month, playing nine straight games in the Premier League and Champions League.

Ramsdale’s only appearance in that time came in the League Cup win over Brentford last month (27 September) as Raya was ineligible to play against his parent club.

Arsenal reportedly paid £3million to sign the Bees man on a season-long loan and will need to pay Thomas Frank’s side a further £27million to land him permanently.

Meanwhile, Ramsdale has been the subject of reported interest from Chelsea.

He kept 15 clean sheets in 41 games across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign but has nonetheless been replaced by Arteta between the sticks as he vies to take the Gunners to new heights.
