Sources: Tottenham set sights on signing Caceres after he dazzled against Brazil

Tottenham are among the sides monitoring Club America defender Sebastian Caceres, sources have told Football Insider.

The 24-year-old has impressed for Uruguay’s senior side under Marcelo Bielsa and dazzled as they beat Brazil 2-0 in World Cup qualifying last week (18 October).

Spurs are now among the sides monitoring his progress ahead of a potential swoop in the January transfer window.

It is believed Premier League quartet Man United, Newcastle, Fulham and West Ham are also keeping tabs on Caceres.

The centre-back plays in Mexico for Club America, where he is under contract until December 2024.

He has racked up six appearances for the Mexico City outfit this term.

Caceres has played 90 minutes in each of Uruguay’s last four World Cup qualifiers, playing alongside Barcelona star Ronald Araujo.

His performances have consigned young Wolves defender Santiago Bueno to the bench.

The 24-year-old has racked up 109 appearances for Club America since joining the club from Uruguayan outfit Liverpool in January 2020.

Monteviedo-born Caceres stands at 5 ft 11 inches and primarily plays on the right side of a back four.

Football Insider revealed on 30 September that Ange Postecoglou is keen to add another centre-back to his Tottenham squad in January.

That is despite the successful signing of Netherlands international Micky van de Ven, who has been a revelation for Spurs so far this term.

Van de Ven has built a formidable partnership with World Cup winner Cristian Romero at the heart of Postecoglou’s defence, with the Lilywhites early title contenders in the 2023-24 campaign.
