'Embarrassing', 'Blatant' - Liverpool fans fume at new VAR controversy in Brighton clash

Liverpool fans reacted on social media after they felt they were on the wrong side of yet another VAR decision during their clash against Brighton.

Jurgen Klopp’s side came away with a point from Sunday’s match with Mohamed Salah’s brace cancelled out by goals from Simon Adingra and Lewis Dunk.

Salah’s second goal of the match came from the penalty spot after Pascal Gross was deemed to have pulled Dominik Szoboszlai to the ground in the box.

VAR awarded Liverpool the penalty but decided against handing out any further punishment to Gross for the foul.

The decision comes just days after the PGMOL published a public apology to Liverpool for incorrectly ruling out Luis Diaz’s goal against Tottenham last Saturday.

Klopp was highly critical of the refereeing performance against Spurs and requested a replay, and the Reds boss found his side experiencing more VAR drama against the Seagulls on Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to vent their frustrations.

One fan claimed that a Liverpool player would have seen red if the roles were reversed at the Amex Stadium.

Another went as far as screenshotting the IFAB laws for the 2023/24 Premier League season to reinforce the argument that Gross should have been sent off.

This fan labeled the refereeing display as “awful” while predicting that the PGMOL would issue more apologies to Liverpool.

Fans continued to ask the question why the ‘blatant’ foul was not met with a red card by referee Anthony Taylor.

This fan slammed Premier League refereeing as ’embarrassing’ for failing to send Gross off for his challenge.
