Rangers will only accept 'big' offer for Jack Butland - pundit

Rangers will only sell Jack Butland for a “big offer” if Birmingham City come calling.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie insisted it would be a massive blow to the Gers to lose Butland, who has been one of the standout signings.

As relayed by the Sun (14 October), new Birmingham boss Wayne Rooney is keen on bringing the 30-year-old to St Andrew’s as he eyes up a new goalkeeper.

Butland joined the Gers in the summer on a free transfer following the expiration of his Crystal Palace contract and, in the wake of Allan McGregor’s departure, comfortably slotted himself into the number one spot.

Former manager Michael Beale was in charge of brining Butland to Ibrox and new manager Philippe Clement will hopefully be content with his choice.

McAvennie suggested that although Butland’s head may not be turned just yet, the club could be forced to sell.

I think he will be willing to give this new manager a chance,” he told Football Insider.

Unless they come in and offer decent money then the club will not say no. That is the way it is in Scottish football, even for Celtic as well, if somebody comes in. Everybody has got a price.

That is the only way I could see him leaving is for big money because it would be a huge blow to Rangers to lose him. He has been the one player that, at the moment, has shown anything to prove why Beale signed him.

In other news, Michael Beale exit could help Rangers land jackpot.
