Sources: West Ham board eye David Moyes replacement, due diligence begins

West Ham chiefs are poised to start doing due diligence on potential replacements for manager David Moyes, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (23 October) that a decision on Moyes potentially quitting the Irons is set to come later in the season – with his contract set to expire in June 2024.

It is believed neither the club nor the manager is in any rush to kick-start talks over a potential extension after a lukewarm start to the new season.

This development comes after speculation over Moyes’ future in the off-season – even after he led West Ham to a historic Europa Conference League triumph.

Form and results could dictate whether the Scot is handed a new contract at the London Stadium.

The Irons sit ninth in the Premier League table after their comprehensive 4-1 defeat away at Aston Villa on Sunday (22 October).

Tension with director of football Tim Steidten could also play a part in the decision on Moyes.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the two came to blows during the summer window over the direction of West Ham’s transfer business.

The Irons built on their European success by spending a reported £120million on new signings in the summer.

Midfielders Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse have settled in well, but defender Konstantinos Mavropanos and forward Mohamed Kudus are yet to make an impact in England.

Moyes has been at West Ham since returning for a second spell in December 2019.

He achieved sixth and seventh-place finishes with the Irons in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 campaigns.
